Curating
Like many artist I organised many groupshows together with other artists. I consider that as part of my artist praxis.
Together with Astrid Moors we organised quite a lot of shows. Here is a list of the projects we initiated and organised:

Happy Crowd
On 20, 21 and 22 April, Art Chapel in Amsterdam South showed the result of the painting with input from the public in response to the questions in the poll. Eight artists each painted 11 canvases at the direction of the public. It was quite an adventure: -the excitement of crowdfunding (fantastic success! with 126% !!!) time constraints when painting -Find solutions to the clues of the audience. The surprise every week when all the artists showed their latest version.Schwarzmalen2

Participating artists
Rolina Nell, Annemarie Vink, Rob Visje, Titus Dekker, Marieke Hunze, Marja van Putten en Astrid Moors.

Friday 21 Nov – Sunday 30 Nov 2008
with Wim VonkConcept
KWASIAFRIKANI is a nomadic art event, that has evolved when Wim Vonk met Cas Rooseboom and Klaas de Jonge. It is based in their affinity with Afrikan art and art history.
KWASIAFRIKANI is a remix of African and European art, a fusion of the work of Wim Vonk (multimedia artist) and the collection of African art of Klaas de Jonge (anthropologist). The African art is used in between all the other found objects as forms. Placed outof their context in a big empty factory they loose their meaning. That does not mean they loose power: the forms are spectaculous and in combination with the leftovers of our daily life an exciting opposion shows up. Very interesting…. But as a European artist doing this without the knowledge of their background…a wrong statement is easily made. And the other way around politically correctness won’t help eather.
With other artists who work with the theme from completely different points of view, artistically and from diffrent origin create a new language: KWASIAFRIKANI. Not real African, not real European art. Prejudice about original African art as well as contemporary Euopean art make it impossible to even think of using the two of them as freely as painter uses his brush. I don’t know nothing about traditional African art is.
The word KWASIAFRIKANI is a phantasy word made by Wim Vonk. It came directly out of his own way of making art and has to do about our dutch, european view about Afrika….that is planted in our minds… In the european art, afrikan art, mostly called ‘primitive’ art is often used as an inspiration opposite to more ‘academic’ ways… We want to research how this will work today…

with Astrid MoorsConcept
During the exhibition ’the digital view’ in Arti et Amicitiae Amsterdam, April 2008, different works by 21 different artists were brought together, raising the question “What is the influence of digitization on painting?” has become visible. The artists are mainly found on the internet. Due to the reach of the www, the available visual material has also become worldwide, as a result of which the mutual knowledge of each other’s existence and working methods also transcends borders.

In painting, “the digital gaze” is increasingly penetrating.
Digt-paint is an artist’s initiative that has been working since 2001 to show that painting is influenced by digital image development. An influence comparable to that of photography in the early 20th century, it started on my initiative in 2000. Astrid Moors and I have made most of the exhibitions since 2002.In 2007, Astrid Moors, Arjo Rozendaal and I investigated in the Haagweg 4 exhibition space in Leiden what exactly we mean by the ‘digital view’.

Er zijn al veel exposities geweest waarin het thema ‘vrouwen in de kunst’ aan de orde is gesteld. Het is tijd om deze expositie juist sámen met mannen te doen.
