About my paintings
I paint with quotes, parts of famous paintings or googled images that I can use. This creates a mix of painting styles that I apply according to what the painting ‘needs’. I use many ways of painting next to each other on one canvas: fine painting, material painting, impressionistic, the grand gesture… whatever is useful to get a pluriform painting.
Mostly I create an initial idea in Photoshop by composing an image in a collage-like way. Then I’m going to convert that image into paint.
The painting process goes through several steps, alternately with the use of the computer to sketch and with painting directly on the canvas without using a pre-arranged plan.
The image mostly goes into an unexpected direction.
I often combine painted parts with fabrics, sometimes little objects.
This effectuates a layered painting full of conflicts and still working as a whole.
The surface can be rough or fine but always with a ‘painted skin’.
This skin and the details on the surface are hard to see on the photos.
Better to see them in real life, but details can show more.
Details
Close to the painting you will see how different kind of materials are mixed and form layers that compete for attention. Some of the details are part of the gallery above, but also from other paintings that are to see in my studio.
